A rock hard goodbye

Photography - Marelize Smit

I love September. Sunny days, bright colours, the smell of rain and butterflies. My younger siblings were also born in this lovely month and this September in particular, has been filled with exciting things my side, both in blogging and just life in general. But while I love hiding away in my happy world of blogging, time unfortunately waits for no man. So while I may be many things, I choose to be a student first. This means I have to say goodbye to my dear corner of earth here on Earth to Asi for the next month but because I am the sweet person that I am, I thought I’d exit on a sweet note with some yum eye candy for my lady followers.

Snip Snap

Photographer - Marelize Smit

So you may have noticed inMy Heritage post that my hair is looking a whole lot shorter than before. I started this year off with shortish hair, changed my relaxer and my hair started growing seriously fast. I experimented with a number of youtube videos on hair growth and volume – everything from stretching my relaxer period, making use of homemade hair masks and at a stage I stopped applying heat to my hair and made use of good ol’ hair curlers (rollers). Basically, I was bored with my hair and my sensitive scalp forced me to put an end to all things hair extensions related.

EXtravaganza

I can’t believe 2 years have already passed since I attended my last extravaganza. An evening of lights, camera and tons of action from both the professional and our mighty talented Kovsies amateurs. The highlight of the evening of course- greeting the beautiful Zahara just as she was about to leave Callie.

One Lovely Blog Award

Morning guys

So yesterday I received a lovely nomination from the beautiful Nati – another first this lovely September. This nomination got me smiling from ear to ear, making me feel a lovely part of blogville.  The nomination is for the One Lovely Blog Award, a cool blogger initiative that doesn’t only introduce different viewers to new blogs but also for us bloggers to just share ideas and get inspired.

My Heritage

Photography - Marelize

Firstly, can you believe it's September already? Secondly, that it's already the 24th of September - meaning we're well on our way to October and before we know it, we'll be singing Jingle Bells and a Ho Ho Ho. So I realise that people across the world are sitting at their desks, earning a living, not in South Africa. We're outchea braaing and sleeping in late because the 24 of September is our annual Heritage Day, aka National Braai Day. But while I will be enjoying a lekke chop later on, I believe that we should all play our part in ensuring that this day is not minimised to a braai day, kodwa sikhumbule imvelaphi yethu. This one is quite a read, so lie back and let me tell you a little something about my heritage.

Instagram Report

Pictures - @asi_lily

A little while ago someone asked why I’m so scarce on Instagram… So this is me giving the full story behind my disappearing act. What happened was, I “lost” my phone the day I left Germany. Lost is in inverted commas coz the “lost” phone was actually lying in a packet with some souvenirs  I’d bought that day. I didn’t think to check the packet coz I was just sure I’d left it in the tram but sometime in December I had to give a friend a souvenir and there lay my dear phone after 4 months chilling in a plastic bag. I then shared a few pictures from my vacation in Cape Town and JHB in December and I would’ve continued to share had I not dropped my phone, crashed the screen and was forced to say goodbye iPhone and hello Blackberry. So after a few months, I have made my way back to the world of insta-this and insta-that and this post will just answer a few things about @asi_lily on Instagram and what you can expect after you hit “follow”.

Event | Store Launch

I have been attending a number of events lately. Some academic, others work-related and some just in the name of fun. But last night I attended my first blogger related event hosted by Mr Jason Viviers, the owner of Jason Viviers Perfume. And what a lovely event it was.

Knowledge is as good as Gold

Pictures - Courtesy of lecturers

And this post is dedicated to the end-year function that saved myself and a number of others from slight insanity. The venue was a beautiful display of gold -  complete with dripping candles and the lovely smell of olive quiche lingering in the air. The speeches kept to the principles of K.I.S.S. and after a sassy dance performance from one of my fav people, dinner was served and wine glasses refilled. And it was downhill from there… Only kidding, that’s just when all the fun began.

Once you go black

Photography - Marelize Smit

The sun is starting to shine a little brighter, the sky bluer (if that’s even a word) and soon the birds will be a chirping busily at the break of dawn. Yes everyone, Spring is upon us. So I thought, before I bring out my short-shorts and everything else short, let me bid winter farewell with one last post dedicated to my fav winter colour and some of my go-to items this past winter.
