Thabazimbi | Johannesburg

And as promised in It's been a WHILE!! – here’s the first of 6 posts of my beautiful weekend away a few weeks ago. This weekend was special for so many reasons – reminded me once again that although the destination plays an important role, the best adventures are determined by the company.

It was a MUCH needed long weekend, the boyfriend’s birthday, I got to see my fav Js after what had felt like ages and enjoyed some time in the wild with limited signal, no traffic, birdies chirping at the break of dawn and some crazy laughter with some of the human creatures I spent the weekend with.

We left Bloem early Thursday morning for JHB. Now I’ve been to JHB a number of times so while my dear friends spent the afternoon doing some touristic activities in Soweto, Tim and I decided to spend some time in Sandton. The best part of our time in Sandton was a few seconds before we took a picture in front of the Nelson Mandela statue. Tim looks at me and says, ”It’s quite a big statue of 'Uncle Nelson'.”

One can’t go to JHB and not enjoy a night out. Now for some strange reason, although I’d heard so much about Montecasino, I’d never actually been there. So when Jarryd suggested that we start the night off in Monte I was totally game. And as luck would have it, Thursday’s also happen to be Spur’s bottomless ribs night. Man, did I dig into those ribs. The concept of bottomless ribs seriously excites me, I’ve never managed to hit the second plate but trust me, it’s bound to happen.

Back to Monte, this place is absolutely stunning. It is so unbelievably convincing, you just need to avoid looking at the roof (I found that the lights and fake sky interfere with the fantasy). Now having been to Italy just last year, I can genuinely say that Montecasino successfully replicated an Italian town, cobblestone, Polizia cars and all. I'll add the link to the Montecasino website at the end of this post.

After all the fun at Montecasino, it was time to kill JHB with my amaaaazing dance moves. We’d seen a lovely club called Rhapsody on our way to Monte so decided we’d head back that way. Being the stylish people that we are, we unfortunately couldn’t enter dear Rhapsody coz we weren’t dressed to standard so off we were to the best party in town, at home.
